At MPA, we believe in giving back to our community and strengthening our connection with the local sangat. Each Panchmi, students and staff step up to serve passing souls with food and water—simple offerings carried on the current of sangat. Born from the longing of our operations team to give back, this monthly practice threads our hearts to the community, turning an ordinary roadside into a small river of grace.
About Panchmi Seva

What it is:
Panchmi is the 5th day of the lunar fortnight. In many parts of India, people use this day to serve others—usually by handing out water, tea and simple food to anyone passing by community spots.
What happens on Panchmi:
On the morning of Panchmi, kitchens warm before dawn. Students help the Langar Staff prepare simple dishes, and fill urns for tea and water. A small ardas gathers the seva team; intentions are named—humility, kindness, presence. Then, at the school gates, tables are laid with the items for offering to the community.
Roles rotate so everyone tastes each part of the practice—preparing, serving, greeting and cleaning.
Why is it such a great seva:
It’s popular in India because it’s practical, and meaningful: the weather can be hot or cold, travellers are often thirsty, and a small act—like a cup of water, hot drink or a snack—makes a real difference.
Our enthusiastic students eagerly join in, embodying the true spirit of seva by giving back to the community with open hearts. It is always heartwarming to see everyone contribute with such openness and kindness.
