MPA’s STEM program includes an exploration of a wide variety of subjects including biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, engineering and math. Students are encouraged both to be curious and learn about the natural world and to explore building and creation. Mathematics is integrated into that learning and also taught through discrete lessons to ensure all standards are met.
The overarching aim for the English programme is to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping students with a strong command of the spoken and written word. Both world and Indian literature is explored in order to foster a love of reading.
The study of a wide range of social sciences, including geography, history, political science, religion, psychology and economics helps students understand themselves and the world in which they live. The social science curriculum promotes place-based learning which engages students in the community. By building communication and inquiry skills, students learn how to interact with any environment, and gain a better understanding of themselves, as well as their place in the world.
The Punjabi curriculum represents an integrated approach to language acquisition. With this approach, reading, writing, listening, speaking, grammar and culture are viewed as interconnected rather than as existing in isolation. Sikh history and philosophy is integrated into the program in order to learn how Sikh lifestyle and understanding can help guide modern life.
The MPA programme is designed to teach students about the various aspects of health and fitness. Throughout their time at MPA, students learn the fundamentals of healthy living and lifestyle, including food and nutrition, physical fitness, lifestyles and life cycles, mind-body connections and so much more.
Life and career skills are interwoven into the MPA curriculum. Skills such as goal-setting, time management, personal finance, reflection and building authentic relationships are interwoven into the curriculum. During their time at MPA, students have access to the college counsellor who walks them through the various stages of the college admission process.
The practice of Kundalini Yoga is aimed at union with the divine through the stimulation of the Kundalini energy that resides in everyone. It is a dynamic, powerful tool for expanding awareness. Kundalini Yoga and meditation classes are held throughout the week along with a basic understanding of yogic philosophy.
The lush-green, outdoor environment of Miri Piri Academy ensures that the students remain active. The school’s physical education (PE) programme has been designed to offer opportunities to students of all levels to participate in sports and fitness. The PE programme includes sports such as soccer, basketball, frisbee, kabaddi, gatka (martial arts), physical training and yoga.
Art appreciation and exploration are an important part of self-expression. The art programme at MPA includes visual and digital art, pottery, and ceramics. Appreciation of Indian art is built into the curriculum. MPA students also have the option of choosing to study Gurbani Kirtan or Tabla. There are opportunities for students to actively participate in gurdwara services.
