Our Mission and History

Miri Piri Academy is an international boarding school for grades 9-12 located in Amritsar, India. Students discover how to learn and succeed in life through our innovative and integrated program of academics, physical fitness, spiritual development, and community living.

We are an inclusive school grounded in the exploration of consciousness and the human experience. Our curriculum uses the framework of Sikh practices and philosophy to support how we approach learning and life.

Our school was founded in 1997 to provide an educational system that addresses the intellectual, spiritual and physical development of each student. We nurture a love for learning and provide our students the foundation of self-confidence and skills to face any challenge life presents to them.

Our Founders

Miri Piri Academy was founded by the Siri Singh Sahib, Harbhajan Singh Puri (Yogi Bhajan) in 1996 with the help of his son Kulbir Singh.

Yogi Bhajan was born in 1929 in present-day Pakistan and migrated to New Delhi, India after the partition of Pakistan and India in 1947. In 1968 he left India to begin teaching Kundalini Yoga in Canada before settling in the USA. Yogi Bhajan and his wife, Bibi Inderjit Kaur, dedicated their lives to spreading the teachings of Kundalini yoga and Sikh Dharma with the intention of creating teachers. During his life, Yogi Bhajan established many businesses and non-profit organizations including 3HO, the Kundalini Yoga Research Institute, and Sikh Dharma International.

Kulbir Singh is the youngest son of Yogi Bhajan. After attending boarding school in India, he worked to secure land for Miri Piri Academy in the ancestral birthplace of Guru Hargobind. Kulbir Singh then lived in Amritsar for five years to oversee the construction of Miri Piri Academy. Since then, MPA has grown in beauty and influence, hosting students from 39 countries on campus since 1996.
