Winter Break Odds and Ends

Here are some more pictures from Winter Break and our transition back to MPA, including our annual New Year’s dip in the sarovar of the Golden Temple.

Christmas Evening

On Christmas we had a little celebration at the hotel. After enjoying the scavenger hunt, we watched a movie of all of the great pictures the students took during the day. One of the tasks that they needed to complete during the scavenger hunt was to pick up a one to two hundred rupee present. After watching the video, we took turns choosing a present from the middle of the circle. Some people got tea, a small notebook, fake Ray Ban sunglasses and other small items. One of the most sought after items was a can of Pringles!

Photos from Around Rishikesh

One of the main things to do during break is to gather a group of your friends together and take a rickshaw to your favourite eating spot. Little Buddha Cafe, A Tavola Con Te, the German Bakery and The Office were once again among the most visited by MPA students, staff and parents.

Zip Lining

One of the optional activities during the week was a day of zip lining. Many of the parents who joined us on break opted to participate in this activity. Everyone who participated had a great time gliding over the Ganga!

Heading Home

All good things must eventually come to an end. By the end of the week in Rishikesh, we were mostly ready to go home. We packed our bags and headed to the train station in Haridwar, spending roughly nine hours on the train before making it back to Amritsar. As you can see from the photos, this was the perfect time to catch up on movies, T.V. shows, music and games.

Kris Kringle

Once we were back on campus and reunited with the Grade 12s who were just coming back from their 12th Grade trip, we had our annual Kris Kringle gift exchange. Prior to break, the Grade 12s organized the very secret picking of names from a hat. Then, over the course of the winter holiday, the students and staff spend hours brooding, consulting and shopping, looking for the perfect gift for their person. On New Year’s Eve we opened the presents!

New Year’s

After the Kris Kringle gift opening, a lovely bonfire and an over-the-top firework presentation put on by Sasha’ dad, Gregory, it was time to head to the Golden Temple. After slowly making our way to our usual spot under the Baba Buddha Tree, we meditated on Guru Ram Das for several minutes before dipping altogether in the sarovar. Reciting Benti Chaupai and doing an Ardas in the extremely frigid waters. It’s a joyous and invigorating way to start the New Year!
