Each student at MPA belongs to a house and those houses compete throughout the year in various competitions. The first competition of the year is the skit competition, where each squad crafts a skit to be performed for the teachers on Teacher’s Day. 

This year the theme of the competition was fairy tales. Each squad did a great job coming up with a story, writing a script, rehearsing, constructing costumes and sets, and performing their skits. 

Silver House won this first competition with their interpretation of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Best actor prizes went to Hana (the Queen in Snow White; Senior Girls), Guru Simrat Singh (the Huntsman; Senior Boys), Elisa (Wendy from Peter Pan; Intermediate Girls), and Sasha (Captain Hook; Intermediate Boys). 

Silver House – Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Silver House won top prize for their rendition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. They had several great performances, including Hana’s performance as the Queen and Guru Simrat Singh’s portrayal of the Huntsman. This story had a slight twist with the Queen dying from eating the red apple and the Prince and a dwarf having a rap battle to compete for Snow White’s love. 

Blue House – Little Red Riding Hood

Blue House did a twist of Little Red Riding Hood. In this version, the Wolf was innocent with a surprise Little Blue Riding Hood killing Grandmother in order to claim his inheritance. As Little Red Riding Hood looked for the wolf, she came across the three little pigs, the seven dwarfs and a troll who had a piggie dance in order to cross the bridge. 

White House – Peter Pan

White House performed Peter Pan set in India. In this version, they had a rickshaw driver who took Wendy and Peter Pan to all of his relative’s businesses around town, including a chai stall where Captain Hook poisoned Peter Pan’s chai. Later there was an epic fight scene between Captain Hook and Peter Pan that was ended by a motherly Wendy who dragged them both out by their ears. 

Gold House – Cinderella

This Cinderella was also set in India with Cinderella mistakenly entering a dance club before finding the Maharaja’s ball. Just as Cinderella and Prince Charming meet and start bhangra dancing, the Prince’s mother comes and breaks up the fun. Ultimately the Prince finds Cinderella through the help of her shoe and they live happily ever after.
