Book Club

Yesterday I went with a group of students to a local bookstore called One Up. One Up is a modern bookstore in Amritsar which has a wide variety of fiction and non fiction books. The students searched the store for twenty minutes and each one picked a book. After picking our books we sat down and pitched our book to the group, explaining why we thought our book should be the one for the group to read. I picked Holes, which probably should have one, but instead we picked Shabd’s book Nine Lives, which also looks very interesting. I’m excited to get started.

The other day I was reading a book and a unnamed intermediate boy came up to me and asked me «you read?», as if that was a really strange thing to do. Hopefully book club will encourage students to read more on their own and play less Angry Birds.
