At Miri Piri Academy, all of our students are given the opportunity to learn
and demonstrate leadership qualities.
Squads
The students are divided into four squads,
or houses, called White House, Gold House, Blue House, and Silver House. Over
the course of the school year, the houses are challenged with competitions,
events, and supporting one another through the daily activities.
Each student
has the opportunity to lead their squad in the individual arena in which they
excel, whether that be Kundalini Yoga, sports, drama, Gatka, Gurbani Kirtan, public speaking,
or art.
Squad Leaders
Within each squad there are two leaders called Jethadars, one for the boys
and one for the girls. Jethadars are selected from each 12th grade class based
on the leadership qualities they have exhibited over the previous years. Being
a Jethadar is a challenging and rewarding experience.
One of our current Jethadars
describes the experience like this: “I personally have found it to be a test
of patience, but it is a gift to be able to inspire others through my words
and actions. Even when I have my own stuff to deal with, being in a constant
state of service pushes me through the impossible. Through this experience,
I have learned that with one kind word of truth, one lift of a finger, I can
alleviate the pain and weight of the miserable; that no matter how hard it gets,
how strong the undertow pulls, I WILL find strength and hope to continue.”
